Just watched the debut documentary by Banksy about street art fan and amateur film maker Thierry Guetta’s rapid rise as an acclaimed LA street artist known as Mr. Brainwash (MBW). Is it real, or a hoax? Nonetheless it’s highly entertaining.
Earlier today I saw a tweet from @coreywhitaker asking about office chairs, so naturally I sent him a link for the Herman Miller Aeron chair.
It’s a classic chair built where I grew up in Holland, MI. Actually their corporate address is in Zealand, MI, but they have plants with amazing architecture throughout the area. One summer when I was in middle school they paid us to do a skateboard demo during their company picnic. During the day a cloud burst erupted and we started skating through the factory. The concrete was smooth as silk. Anyway, I stumbled upon this little interview with the late Bill Stumpf who worked with Don Chadwick to design the chair. Check it.
My long time friend Paul Elkins has been making snowskates for years. Last season I started riding a Ralston snowskate at our SNOWBOARDER events because having no bindings is awesome. Years ago Vincent Skoglund would snowskate around photo shoots so he wouldn’t have to hassle with bindings or a big ol’ board. He was years ahead of his time. Snowskating is like learning to snowboard all over again… the smallest bump can provide hours of fun. Thanks to GVD for putting this edit together.
I met Parker Alec Cross in the tram line at Snowbird back in November. He creates the Wasatch Mountain Podcast, which is in it’s 3rd season. This year they’re trying to bag all the Wasatch peaks over 11,000 feet. Here’s their first episode in which they summit Mt Superior, and Monte Cristo in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
@russe was in town visiting over the weekend and turned us on to this mini movie about a plastic bag narrated by Werner Herzog. Since Hawaii was the first state to pass a law banning single use plastic bags, and the California legislators were too wimpy to follow suite this piece is appropriate.
Huggy, aka Ryan Hughes, has been prepping for they San Clemente Salsa Challenge for the past year. After multiple trial tastings at the office, the recipe was finalized. As Huggy says, ”it comes down to taste, but a good presentation helps win the public’s choice award”. With t-shirts and the ASG crew in full force, team Green Hot Chili Peppers stands a fighting chance at winning.
***Update: Team Green Hot Chili Peppers didn’t win, but they did have the only green salsa entry. So they win in my book.***
Stopped by Nate Christenson’s new loft/studio last week in SLC. It’s not quite finished, but it’s what one would expect from a loft, tall ceilings, exposed brick walls, but there was one thing out of the ordinary. His spare bedroom is basically a vault with all his photography archived.
I had to snap a pick of all the binders with photos of me since ’94. Nate was, and is a great photographer that I could always count on.
I was hiding my rental car keys the other day before going on a hike and noticed this recommendation from Ford to use BP gas. I bet they’re regretting it now.
